myGICA ATV1200: Android 4.2.2 with Kodi 14.1 available

For my myGICA ATV1200 box there is an upgrade to Android 4.2.2 on the Geniatech servers - I didn't wait long to try the upgrade. The result: the box only boots into rescue mode, so the update could start all over again. But from scratch.

First I downloaded the necessary files and copied them to an SD card. Then press the talk button on the myGICA box and start the upgrade from the SD card. Up to this point everything went smoothly, even Android 4.2.2 started without any problems. Unfortunately Geniatech is not yet finished with the next Android for the ATV1200 box: important apps are still missing, for example the Google Playstore. A manual reinstallation didn't help either, the app crashes immediately. Installing other apps is therefore also very difficult.

Back to Android 4.1.2 - or to the dead end?

Since Android 4.2.2 is not yet usable on the myGICA ATV1200, I wanted to go back to Android 4.1.2, so I downloaded the appropriate files, started in rescue mode and loaded the update process. Unfortunately with no good result so far, the box does not start Android 4.2.2 or Android 4.1.2 - maybe it still works after repeated execution, but at the moment I can't use the box. Nevertheless: Android 4.2.2 for the ATV1200 Android TV box seems to be coming. Maybe I'm just waiting for the official version from Geniatech. Update on 29.07.2013: a repeated update with the 4.1.2 files has at least brought my ATV1200 back to the latest official version, so I can use it again.

Android 4.2.2 on myGICA ATV1200

As always with such experiments, always remember: everything happens at your own risk (as you can see in this case, it can also go wrong). To avoid similar problems, I do not provide a link to the image. But with a little googling you can find it without any problems.

Official update to Android 4.2.2

Although the era of Android TV boxes has started with the Amazon FireTV ...a damper. Nevertheless, devices like the MyGICA ATV1200 is far from being ripe for the recycling yard. In the official myGICA support forum you can find the corresponding Firmware files for downloadThe installation procedure is then the same as with my previous attempts. With the current version of the ATV1200 firmware also Kodi (formerly XBMC) comes in version 14.1 on the myGICA ATV1200. The previous features like Netflix on the ATV1200 are of course also included in the current version.
