Currently, the FreeNAS developers are very active and regularly bring new updates. Now FreeNAS 9.2.1.2-RELEASE has been released, which again fixes some problems.
- SMB/CIFS support upgrade to version 4.1.5
- Linux mails now support UFS
- NFS lockd starts correctly at boot time
- the serial console is easier to configure
- logging to .system dataset is now optional
If you don't have a FreeNAS installation (which by the way also Bittorrent Sync supported) can still rely on a HP Proliant N54L or use the successor model, set the HP Microserver G8 with 2.3 GHz Intel dual core.
Unfortunately Wake-On-LAN still does not work correctly - an adjustment in the appropriate configuration file is necessary to set the network card to the correct mode and wake it up again.
FreeNAS 9.2.x becomes more and more flexible with every update - the functionality of FreeNAS 8.x has long since been reached again or even surpassed with the Linux Jails. Especially for private users, FreeNAS is thus more and more exciting, because a complete home server can be replaced.
Update 2014-03-29: FreeNAS 9.2.1.3-RELEASE
In the meantime a new FreeNAS version has been released, 9.2.1.3, which fixes some bugs again:
- Samba (SMB/CIFS support) upgraded to version 4.1.6
- Netatalk (AFP support) upgraded to version 3.1.1
- ZFS replication status is now provided in ZFS Replication UI
- The bug preventing FTP from starting when logging to system dataset has been fixed.
