Amazon is selling the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 shopping tablet in Germany as of today, starting at 269 Euros. For that, you get a tablet with an 8.9-inch display, which offers a resolution of 1,920×1,200. It also comes with 16 or 32 GB of storage and dual-band WLAN.
According to initial tests, the device is fast enough to play all media that Amazon sells for the device. In addition to the Kindle Store, Lovefilm on Demand is also supported, but a paid subscription is required after a trial month to continue using the service.
In general, the Kindle tablets are primarily designed to offer an entry into Amazon's sales world. Apps have to be purchased via Amazon, and access to Google's Play Store is not readily available. Those who have a lot of ebooks anyway or plan to buy a lot from Amazon will find the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 an affordable Android tablet. All others should perhaps invest a few Euros more and get a really free system in return.
