If you want to try out Windows 8, you can download a "Consumer Preview" from Microsoft, which can be installed on your own computer. You only have to meet some system requirements (Source: PCGameshardware.com):
- CPU: 1 Gigahertz
- RAM: 1 Gigabyte (32 Bit) or 2 Gigabyte (64 Bit)
- HDD: 16 Gigabyte (32 bit) and 20 Gigabyte (64 bit)
- Graphics card with DirectX 9
- For docking apps: At least 1,366 x 768 (otherwise: 1,024 x 768)
Beside the complete ISO (32 and 64 bit) there is also a small tool which guides through the download process and also checks the hardware compatibility. With Windows 8, Microsoft not only wants to launch a new operating system for PCs, but also enter the tablet market - with Windows for ARM. So far the tablet sector is dominated by Apple and Android (actually only Apple), Microsoft as the third player in this market has yet to prove itself.
